They utilize Salesforce and the company’s tool stack to coordinate between departments, optimize their business operations and create a seamless integration of SaAS architecture for their clients.
Professional services companies, especially smaller ones, face challenges in accurate time tracking, which is crucial for invoicing, performance analysis, forecasting, and resource planning. Effective time tracking ensures profitability by maintaining planned billable utilization rates. However, several challenges hinder efficient time tracking:
- Manual entry requires employees to remember and make it a habit.
- Often, the details provided are insufficient, making it hard to correlate hours worked.
- The cost and impact of context switching are not visible.
- Resource assignment and allocation against projects are challenging.
- Comparing employee performance based solely on overall utilization is inadequate.
Problem definition
Professional services companies, including Jumpr.io often struggle with accurately tracking billable hours. This is crucial for client billing, resource allocation, and project profitability. Consultants wear multiple hats, leading to context switching and making it difficult to accurately measure time spent on specific tasks. The current time-tracking methods are often manual and prone to human error.
Our Approach
Our approach was to do proper user research to reach the core of the problem. Also, we wanted to do market research to find available solutions in the market, which led us to do a comparative analysis of the time-tracking solution and context-switching digital products.

Usability - Most of the time tracking apps prioritize a user-friendly interface, except Time Doctor and Time Camp.
Software integration - Integration capabilities are common, with tools like Harvest and Hubstaff providing extensive options.
Context Switching insights - TimeCamp and Timely recognizes the cost of context switching and offer resources to ensure that there are minimal chances of missing data while increasing productivity, focus and energy.
Key findings
- Consultants were using more than 5 different programs at the same time, often increasing the cognitive load, leading to users forgetting to turn on or off time tracking software.
- The current time tracking software "Toggle" did not offer any help in the scenarios where consultants had to switch from one project to another.
- From the comparative analysis, it was found that there is not a single software, that fulfills all the requirements.
- There was a privacy concern about tracking and sharing everything consultants were doing during work.
- The manager cannot track billable hours correctly without accurate data, which can lead to a loss of money for both employees and the business.
